Flashback Friday: Christina Vs Britney

Flashback Friday: Christina Vs Britney: It is no secret career of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera are parallel. That's a fact, the two artists were aware of, as they came out on the landscape of pop music from the first platinum albums as a teenager in the nineties. Now, two against each other again one more time, each currently holding positions in the reality singing competition, X-Factor judge and vote accordingly. But as a fan of the singer, can attest to the way Britney and Christina went on the road, opening up to each artist to be a separate and very complex. So for this edition of Flashback Friday, we compare and contrast the careers of mega-power of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. It's Britney vs. Christina or Vs. Britney (depending on how you see it).

While you’re reading, you can hear the duel with our Christina Vs. Britney Playlist.
.
Bright Young Stars

Both Britney and Christina's path has long been connected before they become pop stars: Children were presented at the same time acts on The Mickey Mouse Club with Justin Timberlake, Ryan Gosling and Keri Russell. Britney will be the first of the two singers came to pop music. Girl Kentwood, Louisiana was a hard sell for record keeping - in the wake of the huge success of boy bands like Backstreet Boys, there is uncertainty as to what the music world was ready for the other female pop star Madonna. However, in October 1998, the first single from Britney Spears' "... Baby One More Time ", from his album of the same name, came on the radio. And it will be a hit. Teenage singer showed the spirit of fire in the name of the song over and get-me attitude, and video-Catholic schoolgirl attire is encouraged at the top of Billboard Hot 100 to the end of the year. It was a success that Spears has also played a role in the fall at the beginning of a career Aguilera - and the inevitable competition between them. Aguilera's first album, released in August of next year, stressed the single "Genie In A Bottle", a track as the first single from Britney, says the singer's inner strength and exciting energy to quickly rise to the surface. This would not be the last time the two singers of the past such a fighting spirit.

1) Christina Aguilera

There’s no question that Christina is the biggest pop diva to judge a reality music competition. Not only does she have the diva status, but her constant honesty and intense critiques make her a cut above the rest.

2) Britney Spears

You don’t fool us JLo, we remember the Bennifer days. You are a diva in your own right even though you may have fooled American Idol contestants into thinking you’re sweet and innocent.

3) Jennifer Lopez

You don’t fool us JLo, we remember the Bennifer days. You are a diva in your own right even though you may have fooled American Idol contestants into thinking you’re sweet and innocent.

4) Paula Abdul
Though Paula’s been in this business the longest, she’s far too nice to be considered a “diva.” If anything, Simon Cowell ranks way above her on the high maintenance scale. Paula was an original judge on American Idol and then followed Simon to The X Factor.

Stepping Out
.
In the wake of her smash debut album, Spears was nominated for a Grammy, appeared half-naked on the cover of Rolling Stone, toured the world, released an uber-successful follow-up in Oops!… I Did It Again and tantalized audiences with her scandalous performance at the 2000 MTV VMA’s. So by the time she released her self-titled third album in 2001, she had the license to take the creative reigns of her career. What resulted was “I’m A Slave 4 U”, a steamy-hot expression of the singer’s newfound sexual freedom — a topic that by this time had become tabloid fodder thanks to Spears openly discussing her relationship with ‘NSync singer Justin Timberlake (sadly this would end the following year). Aguilera meanwhile, after having released both a Spanish-language and Christmas album, was likewise coming into her own as both a singer and fierce young woman. The powerhouse singer had decided to shed what she viewed as the bubblegum image of her debut album, instead opting for the in-your-face, take-it-or-leave-it attitude of her next effort, 2002’s Stripped. Like Spears, Aguilera had an anthem to encapsulate her personality shift, “Dirrty” a raunchy tale of liberation. Many critics found the new Christina image damaging to the singer’s previously-cultivated girl-next-door image. Aguilera however would soon silence her critics with “Fighter” and “Beautiful”, two of Stripped’s widely-praised (and equally self-empowering) subsequent singles.

Paths Diverged
.
By the mid-2000’s both Spears and Aguilera’s past efforts had helped each singer solidify their creative independence. But nothing would better demonstrate both of their caution-to-the-wind mindset than their three-way lip lock with Madonna at the 2003 MTV VMA’s. Perhaps this bold move was a sign of the personal chaos that soon arrived for Spears. Less than six months after the infmaous VMA smooch, the singer would marry her childhood friend whats-his-hame in Las Vegas, quickly annul the marriage, soon wed backup dancer Kevin Federline, give birth to two sons, file for divorce in 2006, check into drug rehab, shave her head, check back into rehab for a month-long stint, and later claim to have hit “rock bottom” in the process. To top it off, her father Jamie Spears would subsequently take consvetorship over her life, finances and career, giving him the authority to make all of her legal decisions. Of course, as with any good trip-up, Spears’ comeback was equally glorious: in late 2008 Spears released her aptly-titled sixth album, Circus, highlighted by chart-topping single “Womanizer.” Aguilera, throughout Spears’ mayhem, meanwhile was riding a wave of personal and professional success: she married record executive Jordan Bratman in 2005 (the couple later gave birth to a son in 2008) and her what-you-lookin’-at anthem “Ain’t No Other Man” off her 2006 album Back to Basics earned her a Grammy Award.

Full Circle
.
In the years that followed Spears’ troubles and subsequent comeback, and Aguilera’s success, the women would experience something of a role reversal. Aguilera never did go down the destructive path like Spears, however her next album, Bionic, would prove to be a critical and commercial flop, and she was forced to cancel a string of tour dates as a result . Her marriage also Bratman ended in divorce in 2010. But like Spears, Aguilera bounced back: she soon scooped up her still-ongoing gig as a judge on The Voice and now is set to release a new album, Lotus, next month, for which she’s already released its killer single “Your Body.” Spears has also been experiencing something of a major resurgence in recent times. In addition to her decision to sign on as a judge on X-Factor, her 2011 album Femme Fatale featured a string of smash hits — including the stellar “Hold It Against Me” — putting her back on the pop charts. What’s been an altogether chaotic and momentous path now appears to be returning to its former glory for both singers. We say, let the  pop-star soap-opera that is the careers of Spears and Aguilera continue. We’ll be watching.

She proves that women do rule reality TV and provide the best feedback!

Dangerous Blunder for Troubled Airline

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating how a row of seats in the coach cabin on a passenger jet became loose in flight.

The seats on American Airlines Flight 6885, a Boeing 757, became unbolted during a Saturday night flight from Boston to Miami. The flight was diverted and made an emergency landing at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport.

The passengers in those seats were moved to other seats on the plane. No one was injured and the aircraft landed safely at JFK. The passengers were delayed three hours before being put on another flight to Miami.

Dangerous Blunder for Troubled Airline: The FAA has stepped up scrutiny of American during its bankruptcy, as it has in the past for other carriers in similar situations. AMR Corp., American Airlines' parent company, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Nov. 29, 2011.

This is the latest in a string of recent problems for American Airlines. Maintenance and employee issues have led to significant delays and cancellations in recent weeks.

ABC News reported last month that the airline was forced to delay nearly 40 percent of its flights, with most forced to be late or even cancelled by an "unprecedented and very significant" increase in maintenance issues. The airline blamed the pilots, who it claimed were calling out sick 20 percent more than normal.

"The recent disruptions are primarily due to the significant increase in maintenance write-ups by our pilots, many right at the time of departure," the airline said in a statement last month.

The pilots union said there is no sanctioned work action underway and disagreed with American's accounting of sick leave and crew cancellations.

A fight last month between two flight attendants over a cellphone forced a plane to turn back to the gate at JFK and delayed passengers four hours while the airline found a new crew.

The trouble at the airline has prompted at least one airline industry expert to advise passengers to book away from the airline for the time being.

Wall Street Journal travel editor Scott McCartney warned passengers, "My advice is, until things get straightened out with the operations, if you have a choice, you ought to book another airline.

It's just not worth it.

Dancing With the Stars: Jaleel White Ousts Gavin Degraw in Dancing Duel

William Levy’s hot tango saved him from going home on Dancing With the Stars Tuesday night, but popular singer Gavin Degraw was sent home for a flopped samba.

Degraw, whose dance partner was last year’s mirror ball trophy winner Karina Smirnoff (she danced with Salvadoran army vet J.R. Martinez), received the lowest score of the pack on Monday, a 19 out of 30 points.

"It’s been amazing just being part of the show,” Degraw said. “It reunited my family [because] I'm always traveling.”

Degraw added that being on the show gave his family “something to talk about” and do together. He said he was grateful for the opportunity.

Although the singer got sent home, for the first time in DWTS, he and Smirnoff, were given the opportunity to be saved by faceing off in a dancing duel with fellow contestant Jaleel White and partner Kim Johnson.

In duel, the bottom two teams dance the same song at the same time, allowing the judges to choose the couple with the best overall technique to stay in the competition.

The judges chose White unanimously.

Both Degraw and White said the pressure of being in the duel can feel overwhelming.

“I don’t want to let Karina down,” Degraw said.

The judges added that the duel is the last chance for the couples to convince them they should be here. But, if a mistake is made during the duel, it can send the couple home.

"It’s your last chance for salvation," said judge and dance expert Len Goodman.

“It’s not about your favorite couple or the couple you feel sorry for,” he added. “It’s all about the dancing."

Degraw and Smirnoff had been in the bottom two for multiple weeks in a row.

Still the judges praised Degraw for “giving 110 percent” as well as for his energy.

Judge Carrie Ann Inaba had also told Degraw in past episodes that she enjoyed his positive attitude and enthusiasm every time he was on the dance floor.

For White and Levy who remain in the competition, next week they will take on the Motown challenge.

Celebrity performances and guest appearances include the Temptations and Smoky Robinson.

Dancing With The Stars: The Secret Strategies Gavin DeGraw

It's really too bad that singer/songwriter Gavin DeGraw, who knew his Dancing With the Stars days were numbered, didn't get to employ his secret and rather ingenious strategy to stay in the competition: Phone in the Monday night samba and spend the whole week working on the dance he knew was coming, the Tuesday night, fight-for-your-life cha cha.

With the laid-back style that has become his trademark, DeGraw says he expected to be in the bottom two this week. After all, he's been there twice already, and couldn't believe that he had somehow earned enough votes to escape last week.

But this week he saw it coming, and decided to welcome it with open arms. "I love the bottom two," says DeGraw, who is partnered with reigning champion Karina Smirnoff. "It's a special place, and a place that very few people get to experience repeatedly. People are creatures of habit, so us being in the bottom two is like going back home."

So he took a hard look at the new rules this season that introduced the Dance Duel for the bottom two and decided he wanted to give the producers - and the judges - a run for their money. He wanted to dazzle them with his 11th-hour cha cha. "My strategy as a battlefield general was to not worry about our primary dance and spend the whole week working on what would be our dance-off," he says. "But Karina didn't like that strategy."

"I actually did like it," says Smirnoff, "but we never had the time to do it, because we still needed to do some sort of an original [samba] dance."

"No, we didn't," argues DeGraw. "We could've gone out there, given each other a couple of high fives, just stand there for a minute and a half and say, 'See you guys at the "duel."' And then come out and just kill it."

There is an unspoken rule in reality show competitions - whether it be Survivor or Celebrity Apprentice - that in order to win, you don't play the game, you play the show. DeGraw didn't beat Dancing at its own game - but somebody else might.

"Dancing With The Stars": Gavin DeGraw Ballroom Dances From

There was some expectation in the air until Tuesday, "Dancing with the Stars" results show. Because there was a dance-off. This will lead to a kiss-off, at least, the star crossed couple.

This is Gavin DeGraw was supposed to be a farewell kiss, of course, will not be a surprise to many. However, the kiss-off, which really got the audience in the mood to come, when Maria Menounos and Derek Hough have been invited to renew their salsa the night before.

They are criticized for, yes, actually kissing while dancing. Thus, during their recovery, Hugh threw himself on the podium, and judges have tried to put it on Carrie Ann Inaba puckerdom instead. It seemed to connect with the left ear. Menounos, to keep up, then rode Bruno Tonioli and managed to contact both cheeks. And if the impeccable reputation of the family television was restored until the next episode of "The Simpsons."

Meanwhile, we must prepare for what would be two pairs, in fact, to dance on their mental health. I have in mind their safety.

An intimate film ever shown in this exhibition, there is just how much time they spend encouraging professionals stars. Tell them, before they dance, they are proud of them. They talk to them during the dance, they got it. They say that after the dance they are always proud of them. This, despite the errors, mistimings and then fly that blows from time to time in the eyeballs.

Soon, Maria Menounos, Melissa Gilbert and Gladys Knight all said that they would not be part of the dance duel.

"What we're trying to preserve the integrity of the dance," said Len Goodman dancing duel. He was referring to the great dancers like Sabrina Bryan and Kristin Cavallari, who was sent packing is still too early to viewers who were too short-sighted.

Gavin DeGraw explained by a brief break, he already knew, "the time of Alcatraz".

Speaking of feeling abandoned, trains and Selena Gomez made for the masses of prisoners - though the process seemed to be singing a little more than Gomez.

Singing is very happy in the minutes that were Katherine Jenkins, William Levy, and Donald Driver, who said that they would return in Week Motown. Wait a week ago on Motown "Dancing with the Stars"? But, of course. Do you remember the Four Tops are the quickstep.

"Be like a tiger," Kim Johnson whispered Jaleel White before the dance. While viewers may not have been so inhumane to put a tiger in a duel of the dance.

"I can tell you a secret," whispered Karina Smirnoff DeGraw, before trying to dance in unison. Of course, DeGraw said. "I farted." Some say that it was the most flavorful of their contribution as DeGraw, who began the samba in the canoe was drifting through the night. Yes, paddleless canoeist said that he would not sing for his supper. He danced on his dinner.

Roshon Fegan said that he will be around for another week. Who left the White Tiger and slow Draw DeGraw fight.

The nice thing is that they are dancing together. Thus, the judges carefully compare the two that were really the most deserving.

Before the match, DeGraw explained politely that white is better. He went out and proved. His cha-cha, cha, to be charitable, consisting of his stay on his knees, while the Smirnoff was trying to impress the judges, and then standing still while the Smirnoff was trying to impress the judges.

White and Johnson danced for a few seconds before DeGraw and Smirnoff even moved. It was not a fight. He was a man with two guns, they all point in one eye.

DeGraw was not anything, but what he was trying to do lately. Unfortunately, he is trying to become a singer on the stage of which consists of him sitting at the piano.

The judges tried to be good. But they were unanimous in taking off their hats and DeGraw wishing well.

The next week, Temptations, Martha Reeves and Smokey Robinson actually provide the music. Yes, live.

Maybe, DeGraw would stay and offer a few choruses - in particular, however, to avoid the "Songs of My Tears". "Dancing in the Street".

Giants Season is Probably Close to Brian Wilson

Brian Wilson says his season is likely over.

The San Francisco Giants' bearded and boisterous closer said before Sunday's series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates that he will probably have elbow-reconstruction surgery, ending his season with only a save. An MRI showed the structural damage.

Wilson says he will seek at least one other opinion and probably two, including from the renowned orthopedist Dr. James Andrews, who performs Tommy John elbow-reconstruction surgeries.

The 30-year-old Wilson, led the majors with 48 saves in 2010, already had one Tommy John surgery during college. The three-time All-Star right-hander complained of discomfort in the elbow Friday and was sent for tests.
